Has science made belief in God unnecessary?
Science describes how the creation works and has no instrument capable of ruling out the One who made it.
No. Understanding how the natural world works does not, by itself, establish that it has no Creator. Science investigates nature through observation, testing, and evidence. Its success in explaining natural processes does not settle every question about God’s existence or our purpose.
Explaining a process is not explaining God away
The Bible presents God as the Creator and sustainer of everything.
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
On that understanding, discovering how the world works means learning about the creation God sustains and holds together. Explaining a natural process does not automatically explain God away.
Christian belief therefore need not rest on gaps in scientific knowledge - the claim that God must have done whatever we cannot yet explain.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Its argument concerns what exists, including the things we understand.
This does not mean every religious claim is beyond examination. Claims about the physical world can be tested against evidence, and Christians should carefully examine whether their interpretations of Scripture are sound.
A specific claim you can examine
Christian faith also makes a specific claim about Jesus: that He lived, died, and rose again.
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Scientific knowledge does not remove the need to consider that testimony.
We can value scientific discovery while still asking: does the world have a Creator? Has He made Himself known through Jesus? What response does that call for from me?
